As for when to unlock, cannoning with msb (i) at ~90 range on task will probably get you 130-140 kills an hour while using 1.2k cannonballs and 12 p pots an hour. That's personally when I would unlock shamans. I also wouldn't recommend purely training range off task but if you want to do it then go for it.
